A controlled grassland burn may be noticeable by Elk Grove residents today.
Federal and local firefighters will be burning up to 37 acres of grassland within the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. The burn will take place south of Elk Grove, north of Lambert Road and about a mile west of Interstate 5.
Smoke should quickly dissipate, according to a press release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The burn helps with firefighter training, reduces high grass fire danger and improves wildlife habitat.
