A driver who was killed in a fiery head-on crash at Folsom Lake Crossing was identified Sunday by the Sacramento County coroner's office as Steven Schwartz, 28, of Orangevale.

The driver of the other car was badly burned and had not been positively identified by Sunday afternoon, according to Folsom police.

A BMW sport-utility vehicle was traveling at "extremely excessive" speeds when it crossed the double yellow lines and hit a Honda compact car being driven by Schwartz about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Family members said Schwartz was the designated sober driver for a group of friends and had just dropped off his passengers when the accident occurred.

Both drivers died in the impact. Neither vehicle had passengers.

Police are investigating whether drugs or alchol were a factor in the crash.
