Residents have been allowed back in their homes after a ruptured gas line in an Antelope neighborhood was crimped off.
Construction crews broke the 2-inch natural gas line when working in the vicinity of Walerga Road and Singing Tree Way about 10 a.m., sending gas into the air, said fire officials.
Pacific Gas & Electric crews responded, dug holes on either side other the rupture, and crimped off the pipe. With the leak stopped about 11:45 a.m., about 10 residents, who earlier had been evacuated, were allowed back inside their homes.
Crews had been digging to install the base for a new street lamp when the break occurred. The damaged portion of the pipe line will be fixed this afternoon, said a representative from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
