Judge sentences man for killing one, shooting four others in Del Paso Heights

A 25-year-old man is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison after a Sacramento Superior Court judge sentenced him for fatally shooting an innocent bystander and injuring four other people at a 2011 party.

On Friday, Judge Greta Fall sentenced Michael Walton to 91 years to life after a jury convicted him of murder, attempted murder, three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney's office.

After the jury trial, Fall also found a prior strike allegation to be true, the DA's office said.

The April 17, 2011 shooting at a party in Del Paso Heights left 34-year-old Christopher Milas dead. Prosecutors described Milas as an innocent bystander.

Another victim, William Simms, was hospitalized for months after the shooting, and has had over a dozen surgeries to date, the DA's office said. Three other victims were shot but survived.
