A man died when his car crossed over the freeway median separating lanes on Interstate 5 in southern Sacramento County and collided with an on-coming vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol said the 32-year-old Sacramento man was driving southbound on I-5 near Twin Cities Road about 6:20 a.m. when his car crossed over the center median.
The car spun out of control and into the path of another car headed northbound on I-5. The driver of the on-coming northbound car could not avoid collision, crashing into the man's vehicle.
Both cars careened off the roadway and onto the freeway shoulder, according to the CHP. The man was declared dead at the scene; his name was withheld pending notification of family.
The driver of the northbound car, a 35-year-old woman from Walnut Grove, was transported to the hospital with minor-to-moderate injuries.
