Panel to recall notorious Sacramento crimes

Puente_NoPlea.JPGSome of the most sensational crimes of the past century in Sacramento will be discussed by a panel of retired lawmen, lawyers and a jurist.

Former Sacramento Union reporter Steve Martarano will host the gathering 7 p.m. Sunday at Time Tested Books, 1114 21st St. The event is free and open to all ages.

Among the cases scheduled to be discussed is that of Dorothea Puente, the F Street landlady convicted of killing her tenants and burying them in her backyard. Also sure to be recalled is the case of Richard Trenton Chase.

In the late 1970s, Chase killed six people in the Sacramento area. He was known as the "Vampire Killer" because he drank the blood of his victims.
