Sacramento police arrested a 37-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly flashed two 10-year-old children walking along a Natomas canal.
The incident is a reminder to parents to talk to their children about the danger of strangers, said Officer Doug Morse.
Morse said the children - a boy and a girl - were walking along the canal near North Bend Drive and Natomas Boulevard when the suspect tried to strike up a conversation with the girl.
He then snatched a pack of gum out of her hands, Morse said. The children walked away, but the suspect followed, and then exposed himself to them, Morse said.
As the children ran away, they saw the suspect touch himself, he said.
"They did the right thing," Morse said of the children. "They contacted an adult in the area," who then called police.
Arrested in connection with the incident was Emerson Garrard Jr., pictured above. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery and lewd acts with a child under 14, according to booking records. He also had an outstanding warrant for loitering in parks and failing to appear.
Garrard is being held in lieu of $163,500 bail.
