A Shafter man was arraigned Tuesday in Yolo County in connection with an assault on an Arbuckle man who was found with gunshot and stab wounds Oct. 1 on County Line Road in the Dunnigan area.
Danny Joe Stearman, 64, was arrested Oct. 9 in Shafter and was booked into Yolo County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide in the shooting and stabbing of 49-year-old Mark Cullen. Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Lance Faille said Stearman is the uncle of Cullen's ex-wife.
Cullen was found by a co-worker near the Yolo-Colusa County line. When Cullen failed to show up for his scheduled midnight shift at Adams Vegetable Oils Inc. in Colusa County, the co-worker called Cullen's cell phone. Cullen was able to answer the phone and told the co-worker that he was on County Line Road and was dying, according to sheriff's officials.
The co-worker drove the route that Cullen usually traveled to work and found him lying on the side of the road with stab wounds to his upper body and head.
Detectives later confirmed that Cullen also had been shot. Faille said Cullen has since been released from the hospital.
Faille said he could not provide information on a motive for Stearman's alleged attack on Cullen.
Stearman was arraigned on charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, assault with a firearm and assault with a weapon other than a firearm.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Yolo County Sheriff's Investigation Unit at (530) 668-5212.
