Two teens died over the weekend east of Chico in a rollover accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said in a press release that a 2003 Acura with three teens was approaching a curve in the roadway on South Park Drive near Shaw Circle in Magalia about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night when the car went out of control due to the 16-year-old driver's "turning movements and unsafe speed."
The car left the roadway, hitting a utility pole and a tree before overturning. The car's two passengers, a girl and a boy, were killed.
The Paradise Post identified them as Billi Oliver, 16, of Magalia and Dustin Lyle, 17, of Paradise. The driver suffered moderate injuries.
The CHP said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The Paradise Post reported that Sunday night 1,000 people mourned the death of the two young people at the scene of the crash. More information is at http://www.paradisepost.com/news/ci_21876354
