Witness reports SUV following UPS truck around time of porch parcel theft

Is a thief shadowing parcel delivery trucks in Roseville and then pilfering the packages from porches?

Roseville police report that On Sept. 26 someone took a package that contained a tent from the porch at a residence in the 1400 block of Dorchester Drive.

The theft occurred despite the best efforts of the resident who received an e-mail notification from United Parcel Service that the package had been delivered at 2:09 p.m. The resident promptly called a friend to pick it up.

But by the time the friend arrived, six minutes later, the package had been stolen, police said. The friend reported seeing a green sport utility vehicle that appeared to be following the UPS truck.

Police said it is unknown if the SUV is connected to the theft.

In a separate theft, a package containing costume jewelry delivered to a porch in the 1700 block of Oakwood Drive was stolen while the resident was out of town.

Police tip for delivered packages: arrange to have it delivered when you or someone else can be home or ask that the parcel deliverer hold packages at their offices for pickup.
