Airman found dead in Nevada County identified

An airman found dead in his vehicle off Highway 20 Friday was identified as Ayaz "Neil" Ali, 41, said Nevada County sheriff's officials.

Ali reportedly was stationed in Georgia and was visiting Northern California's Beale Air Force Base. Beale officials said the airman had been missing since Tuesday evening when he left the base.

The California Highway Patrol said Ali's Toyota Camry was spotted about 3:30 p.m. at Wild Turkey Lane and Highway 20 by state highway workers. A body found inside the car had been dead for at least a day, CHP said.

Nevada County sheriff's officials said it appeared Ali suffered head injuries in the single-car accident. Toxicology tests will determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the death.
