QUESTION: What was the outcome of the case where a Sacramento teacher slapped a student on the buttock at Hiram W. Johnson High School? The teacher's name was Timothy Carter, a math teacher.
Submitted by: Hailey, Sacramento

ANSWER: A Sacramento County jury found Hiram Johnson High School math teacher Tim Carter not guilty of misdemeanor battery against a student.

Carter faced a single count of battery on school grounds after a female student said he slapped her twice on the buttocks in April 2010.

He was arrested in May and released the same day. His three-day trial in December 2010 ended in the not-guilty verdict.

According to a story in The Bee, two students and a fellow math teacher testified on Carter's behalf during the trial, and shortly after the allegations, more than 300 students signed a petition supporting Carter.
