QUESTION: Whatever happened to the case of two brothers who were killed the day after Thanksgiving in 2002 in Del Paso Heights? Did they ever find the person?
Submitted by: Mr. Augustus, Sacramento
ANSWER: Jovon Latrell Jordan was convicted of murder in the shooting deaths of Gregory Augustus, 18, and Hudson Augustus, 20, in November 2002.
According to stories in The Bee, the shooting occurred after one of the brothers and a suspect, later identified as Jordan, had a short conversation inside the East Coast Fashion store in the 3700 block of Marysville Boulevard.
Jordan apparently was angry about a comment made by one of the brothers and followed them outside the store. The argument continued a few doors down the street in front of Danny's Pizza and ended with Jordan shooting both brothers several times.
The Augustus brothers were out on bail after being charged in a robbery that occurred June 29, 2001. They were to be tried in January 2003. The trial had been delayed because Gregory Augustus had tried to convince the court that he was mentally incompetent to stand trial.
Jordan was 16 at the time of the shooting but was tried as an adult. According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 90 years in state prison.
