California Highway Patrol officers have arrested the motorist they suspect was driving drunk when he caused a head-on collision near Lincoln that killed a man.
The suspected drunken driver has been identified as Andrey Yushchuk, 43, of Lincoln. He was arrested at the hospital where was treated for his injuries.
The dead man has been identified by the Placer County Sheriff's Department as Gabriel Rodriguez, 53, of Live Oak.
CHP officers were called to the crash on Sierra College Boulevard near Twelve Bridges Drive about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. The CHP reported that the crash involved two minivans and a truck.
Yushchuk's minivan, traveling northbound, crossed into the southbound lane, hitting the minivan driven by Rodriguez, according to the CHP.
Yushchuk was transported to a hospital by helicopter with major injuries. Rodriguez was declared dead at the scene.
A truck behind the Rodriguez minivan was also hit by Yushchuk's vehicle. The pick-up driver did not suffer any injury.
