A man was fatally shot on a Del Paso Heights street Tuesday night, and police continue to search for the shooter.
The man's body was found at North Avenue and May Street. Neighbors heard gunshots just before 6:45 p.m., and called police, said Sacramento Police Officer Michele Gigante. Officers and first responders arrived to find the man dead, Gigante said. The victim was described as in his late teen or early 20s, she said.
Who the man was or why he was shot remained unclear Tuesday.
But neighbors were disturbed by the sudden violence, gathering on the streets to find if the man was someone they knew.
One, Nikki Bryant, had just moved to the block three days ago from Atlanta. She said she lost a cousin to gun violence in Sacramento earlier this year.
As rain fell, she mulled her decision to move to Sacramento.
"It's just so sad. People are losing their lives," she said. "This is upsetting to me. This was someone's child."
