Pilot dies in Calaveras plane crash

By Ed Fletcher

The pilot of a small plane has died after his aircraft crashed at around 3:42 p.m. Friday, three-quarters of a mile south of the Calaveras County airport.

The identity of the pilot has yet to be released. Upon arriving on scene, deputies determined the pilot had succumbed to his injuries, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

The aircraft, a single-engine, home-built Coot A-Amphibian, was inbound at the time of the incident, said Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing the investigation.
