Sacramento County sheriff's officials have identified the teen suspected of killing his father this morning as 18-year-old Daniel Cartwright.
Detectives booked Cartwright into the Sacramento County Main Jail this afternoon on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting death of his 40-year-old father, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.
The Sacramento County Coroner's office today identified the father as Richard Alllen Cartwright.
Deputies discovered the man's body in an apartment in the 4000 block of South Watt Avenue after a 911 caller reported he had shot his father. Upon pulling into the complex, deputies found the younger Cartwright, who identified himself as the caller, Ramos said.
In a nearby unit, deputies found the victim with a single gunshot wound and the weapon they suspect was used in the crime, Ramos said.
Ramos said detectives believe the shooting occurred several hours before the 911 call was placed; however, he did not elaborate on a reason for the delay.
