The Sacramento County Sheriff's Activities League will be hosting its last "Friday Night Hoops" event of the year this Friday - and will be giving out free turkeys to the families of youth participants.
The "Friday Night Hoops" program, hosted at the Dr. Ephraim Williams Family Life Center in Oak Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., pairs sheriff's deputies and at-risk youth from the area in basketball games and drills. The program is designed for children between the ages of 8 and 15 and is free.
In preparation for Thanksgiving next week, deputies this week will be handing out free frozen turkeys to the families of youths who attend Friday night.
Deputies also are seeking donations of frozen turkeys. Those that are not handed out Friday night will be saved for a later event during the holiday season, said Deputy Cary Trzcinski, who heads the Sheriff's Activities League.
