An Antelope couple escaped a fire in their home early this morning after being awakened by their smoke alarm, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
When firefighters arrived on Moose Creek Court just before 2 a.m., the home's garage and attic were engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the district.
After searching the home to make sure no one was inside, firefighters attacked the fire and kept it contained to the garage and attic, with no damage to the living area, saving about $150,000 in personal property, the release states.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
District officials remind residents to test smoke alarms monthly and change batters when clocks are changed. Almost two-thirds of home fire-related deaths occur in homes with no working smoke detectors, according to the district.
