Investigators were working today to determine the cause and origin of a Monday night apartment complex fire in Arden-Arcade area that critically injured one person and displaced residents of a 14-unit building.
Firefighter Michelle Eidam, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, said the two-alarm fire was reported at 11:29 p.m. in the 2700 block of Castle Hill Court, east of Fulton Avenue and north of El Camino Avenue. Crews arrived to find a fire burning in second story units of a two-story building.
Eidam said two people were injured. Firefighters rescued a man from one unit and he was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in critical condition. Eidam said a woman was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Four upstairs units suffered fire damage. Eidam said the units had a common attic and once the fire got into the attic, it quickly spread. Four downstairs units suffered water damage and another unit suffered smoke damage.
The entire 14-unit building had to be evacuated pending determination that it was structurally safe. Eidam said the Red Cross was on scene to arrange for temporary shelter for the displaced residents.
