Two Sacramento County residents appointed to Superior Court

Steven Gevercer.jpgBunmi Awaoniyi.jpgTwo judgeship appointments were announced today to the Sacramento County Superior Court.

Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Bunmi O. Awoniyi of Elk Grove and Steven M. Gevercer of Sacramento to the positions. Both are Democrats.

Awoniyi, 48, has served as a principal attorney with a family law practice since 1994. She is a certified family law specialist.

She fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.

Gevercer, 54, has served as a senior assistant attorney general at the Attorney General's Office, Civil Division, Tort and Condemnation Section since 2011. He served as a supervising deputy attorney general from 2008 to 2011.

He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Gary S. Mullen.

Each position pay $178,789 a year.
