Update: Man run over on Watt Avenue identified

The Sacramento County Coroner's office has released the name of a man run over on Watt Avenue on Wednesday.

Coroner's deputies identified him as Dennis Wanstreet, 63, of North Highlands. His cause of death was listed as undetermined.

The California Highway Patrol said that Wanstreet was lying on the pavement in the northbound inside lane of Watt Avenue just north of Plymouth Drive about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by an oncoming car. He died at the scene.

A bicycle was located at the scene. An earlier report from the CHP said Wanstreet died after being hit by a car after he fell from the bicycle.

However, a later press release said although a bicycle was found at the scene, it has not been determined if Wanstreet had been riding the bike prior to the accident.
