Woman arrested after death of pedestrian in South Sacramento

The Sacramento County Coroner's office has released the name of a pedestrian killed when hit by a car in the South Area late Friday night.

He was identified as 50-year-old Sounthone Thevadaenaphay.

A California Highway Patrol spokesman said that a car driven by Maria Castillo, 59, of Sacramento was southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 41st Avenue about 11:15 p.m. Friday when her vehicle struck Thevadaenaphay.

He died at the scene. The CHP spokesman said Castillo fled the scene to her nearby residence.

She was later arrested at her home on suspicion of manslaughter and hit-and-run, according to the CHP.
