An 18-year-old died when the car in which she was riding spun out of control on a wet Garden Highway and hit a tree.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Kayla Lizama-Pierson, 18, of Yuba City died from her injuries suffered in the crash that occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday night. The CHP said that Lizama-Pierson was in a Honda Civic driven by another 18 year old, Natalie P. Boutilier of Yuba City, on the Garden Highway near Barry Road, when the car began to lose traction after negotiating a slight curve int he road.
The car began spinning and traveled off the road, entering a walnut orchard south of Yuba City. The car slid sideways through the muddy orchard before the passenger side hit a tree.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
