Several members of the Placer County law enforcement community conducted a funeral service Wednesday for a newborn boy found in a trash bag over the summer.
The mother of the child has not been found despite efforts by the Placer County Sheriff's office. The body was found June 21 along a Newcastle roadway.
Sheriff's department staff and the county chaplaincy said they wanted to give the child a decent burial despite the circumstances of his death. He was buried in the baby section of the New Auburn Cemetery.
The body was discovered after a woman walking along an undeveloped subdivision alerted authorities to a foul odor coming from a pile of garbage.
The department had not previously alerted the media of the search for the boy's mother.
