A man standing on a sidewalk in a Del Paso Heights neighborhood was shot and killed Thursday morning, Sacramento police said.
Police received reports of shots being fired in 600 block of Las Palmas Avenue about 11:30 a.m., and responding officers found an African-American male in his 50s with multiple gunshot wounds, said Officer Doug Morse.
Witnesses told police the victim was standing near the street, when a vehicle drove up near him, and someone opened fire. The shooting suspect then fled in the vehicle.
The victim, who is known to live in the area, was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. No one is in custody for the homicide, although some witnesses were being questioned at the scene.
"Homicide investigators are canvassing the neighborhood, knocking on doors and talking to people on the streets and piecing together evidence," Morse said.
