Morgan McGinn (pictured) admitted starting 15 fires during August and September, according to a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District news release.
He was arrested Oct. 1 by arson investigators and charged with five counts of arson and two counts of felony burglary. He pleaded no contest Dec. 20 to one count of arson, according to Sacramento Superior Court online records.
At the time of McGinn's arrest, officials said he admitted to arson investigators that he was responsible for starting fires Aug. 17 at the Phoenix Preschool, 2921 Garfield Ave., and in debris at the Loma Linda Apartments, 5545 Marconi Ave.; Aug. 18 at the Marconi Montessori School, 5619 Marconi Ave., and the Carmichael Library, 5600 Marconi Ave.; Sept. 23, at the Carmichael Presbyterian Church, 5645 Marconi Ave., and at a vacant house at 5645 Myrtle Lane. He also admitted to attempted arson of an occupied structure at an undisclosed address and to eight additional fires that are under investigation, officials said.
Total damage caused by the fires was estimated at $750,000.
