Cathleen Boland (pictured), 56, had told her family that she was considering suicide, and Vacaville police said it appears she died of a gunshot wound.
The Police Department on Thursday asked the public's help in finding Boland, issuing a news release and posting information on the city of Vacaville's Facebok page.
This morning, a Vacaville resident saw a white Dodge Neon matching the description of Boland's vehicle parked off Leisuire Town Road and remembered reading about the at-risk missing person. After checking media reports, the resident confirmed that the license plate on the car matched that for Boland's vehicle and called police.
Officers arrived and found Boland dead inside the car.
Detectives who had been looking for Boland responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation, according to a Police Department news release.
Anyone with information on where Boland was between the time she left home and when she was found is asked to call the Vacaville Police Department at (707) 449-5200, or Detective Mark Ferreira at (707) 449-5258.
