A new digital red-light photo enforcement camera system has been installed at Zinfandel and Olson drives in Rancho Cordova and is scheduled to go "live" at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
For a period of 30 days, red-light violators will be mailed a warning notice. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 12, red-light violators at this intersection will receive citations by mail, according to a Rancho Cordova Police Department news release.
The citation will include a referral to a website where the violator can view the still and/or video images of the violation. The violator should be able to clearly see where the vehicle was in relation to the intersection's limit line, and the green, yellow and red lights.
Police say the system is intended to increase traffic safety, citing studies that have shown a significant reduction in red-light-related crashes at intersections with photo enforcement camera systems.
