Sac PD: Man arrested for resisting after grabbing for officer's gun

Sacramento police said a man who allegedly grabbed for an officer's gun was arrested outside a Franklin Boulevard store Wednesday evening.

Anthony Genel, 41, was one of three people loitering outside the store in the 5000 block of Franklin Boulevard around 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The trio was also said to be causing a disturbance, which brought officers to the scene.

When officers approached Genel he was hostile and resisted officers when they tried to detain him, according to a police activity log. During the attempt to control Genel, he tried to remove an officer's handgun from its holster, according to police.

The attempt to disarm the officer prompted other officers to bring Genel under control. He was booked into jail on suspicion of battery and resisting arrest.
