Sacramento County Juvenile Hall officials seek book donations for library

Sacramento County probation officials are asking for book donations as they seek to build up the library at Juvenile Hall.

A new library opened at the hall, formally known as the Youth Detention Facility, this summer. The goal is to promote reading, improve literacy and provide youth with resources to help them prepare for transitioning back into the community, according to the probation department.

Officials are asking for new or gently used books appropriate for youths between the ages of 11 and 17, but note that reading levels vary from kindergarten to college. They are interested in classic literature, textbooks, fiction and non-fiction.

Donations can be dropped off at the Juvenile Hall visiting center, 4136 Branch Center Road in Sacramento between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. any day of the week. For more information about how to donate, contact Tydamika Sasser at (916) 875-0566 or
