Sacramento police officers have arrested one of their veteran colleagues on suspicion of various sexual assaults allegedly committed while off duty, according to a Police Department news release.
Gary Baker, 49, has been a police officer for 22 years, according to the department. He was placed on paid administrative leave during the course of the investigation until today, when he was fired by Police Chief Rick Braziel.
Baker is accused of assaulting a 76-year-old woman on three occasions, the first two years ago, and then twice in recent months, according to the police department. Officers arrested Baker today on suspicion of rape, two counts of forcible oral copulation, attempted oral copulation with intent to commit rape and sexual battery.
"I have no explanation as to why Mr. Baker would do such a thing. None. Zero," Braziel said.
Braziel said he and others in the department have been greatly affected by the alleged crimes by their colleague.
"It does not a shed a trusting light on the Sacramento Police Department," Braziel said. "Baker is not an accurate representation of the fine men and women of the department."
