Coroner identifies man killed in Valley Hi hit-and-run

Sacramento County Coroner's deputies have released the name of the young man killed in a hit-and-run in the Valley Hi area on Wednesday.

He was identified as David Tyrell Mickens, 29, of Sacramento.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, police and paramedics were called to the 5900 block of Valley Hi Drive where Mickens was unresponsive in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined a car was travelling eastbound on Valley Hi Drive when it struck Mickens in the roadway. They found evidence of a broken headlamp and turn signal at the scene, and believe that the suspect vehicle has damage to its right side.

Officers canvassed the area but were not able to locate witnesses, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Doug Tracy at (916) 808-6030 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.
