Update: Parolee in Sacramento standoff identified

Paul Garduno.JPGAuthorities have identified a wanted parolee who was involved in a standoff last night with Sacramento police.

Police said that Paul Garduno, 54, surrendered to law enforcement officers late Monday night, ending a standoff that prompted the evacuation of several homes and apartment units in the area of Connie Drive and El Camino Avenue tonight.

Sacramento police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante said a call was received at 7:12 p.m. from a woman reporting a prowler at her home in the 2400 block of Connie Drive, east of the Capital City Freeway. The woman said someone was trying to break in and then determined that it was her boyfriend, a wanted parolee.

The man initially held her in the residence against her will, but she was able to talk him into allowing her to leave unharmed. As he remained inside, SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were summoned.

Gigante said Garduno surrendered shortly before midnight. He was arrested on suspicion of parole violation, resisting arrest and false imprisonment.
