Woman pleads no contest to 2nd-degree murder in girl's death

A woman pleaded no contest today to second-degree murder charges in the beating and strangulation of her step-daughter who remained in a vegetative state for six years until she died two years ago.

Weili Kao, 43, entered the plea in Sacramento Superior Court in the death of Truly Lo, who was 6 when she sustained her injuries in May 2004. The girl died Dec. 21, 2010.

Judge Patrick Marlette scheduled Kao's sentencing for Dec. 12. Kao is facing a term of 15-to-life as a result of her no contest plea.
