Woman punched, gifts stolen in Roseville parking lot

A woman was assaulted Sunday night after confronting a man attempting to steal Christmas gifts from her car at a Roseville grocery store.

Roseville Police Sgt. Karl Dyer said the woman had shopping bags from JC Penny in the front seat of her car when a man in a sweatshirt approached her vehicle and attempted to take the gifts. The woman was parked in the Bel Air parking lot on Cirby Way and Sunrise Avenue at the time of incident, around 7 p.m.

The suspect punched the woman and fled on foot with the bags. The woman did not need medical attention.

Dyer said police recommend keeping shopping purchases out of view, particularly this time of year.

"They are casing cars in parking lots," Dyer said.

Dyer also said he does not suggest confronting a person in a situation like this.

"You don't know what they have, the mind they are in or how desperate they are," Dyer said.

Anyone with information can contact the Roseville Police Department at 774-5000.
