A man wielding a machete attacked and injured a Woodland man in the early morning hours Sunday, and a second man was hurt disarming the suspect, according to Woodland police.
The victim, 24-year-old Joseph Mendoza, was treated for a non-life threatening injury to his head.
Sgt. Victoria Danzl said Mendoza was sitting in a parked vehicle in the parking lot of the Woodland Oaks Apartments in the 700 block of Cottonwood Street, when he stepped out of the vehicle about 1:30 a.m. and got into a verbal argument with the suspect. The suspect then struck Mendoza with the machete.
His friend, 23-year-old resident Ryan Gomez, wrestled the machete away from the attacker and sustained a non-life threatening injury to his hand.
The victims told police they did not know the suspect. He is described as a young Hispanic male, 5'6", 140 pounds, wearing a white hooded jacket and dark jeans. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800.
