A chase of an alleged probation violater in downtown Woodland ended in his arrest.
Police knew that Paul Shuler Jr., 29, of Woodland was wanted on suspicion of recently stealing a vehicle and a handgun. He was also wanted by the Yolo County Probation Department for violating post-release supervision.
When police tried to arrest him about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, police said he bolted, taking a handgun from around his waist as he fled on foot.
Police said he dropped the weapon when he tried unsuccessfully to jump over a fence on North Street, east of College Street. Eventually, he was caught.
Police deployed a Taser and Shuler was subdued by numerous responding officers. Shuler was booked into Yolo County Jail on suspicion of grand theft of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, vehicle theft, resisting arrest, being under the influence of a central nervous stimulant and violating terms of his probation.
