Five people were briefly evacuated from a work area at the Apple plant on Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove this morning after an employee reported feeling ill while repairing an Apple product.
Deputy Chief John Michelini of the Cosumnes Fire Department said fire crews were called to the plant at 10:30 a.m. The employee reported that, while working on the item, what appeared to be a white crystal substance fell out of an earphone. Shortly afterward, the employee began to feel ill.
Michelini said a hazardous materials team was summoned to inspect the area and the device, and the immediate work area was evacuated as a precaution. The team found no evidence of any contamination, and employees were allowed to return to the area after about 30 minutes.
Michelini said the employee who reported feeling ill was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The reported symptoms, he said, were typical of a cold or flu.
