ANSWER: Moses Stanley Trotter, 32, remains in Sacramento County Jail charged with murder in the death 79-year-old Carole Jane Sturgis.
His next court date, for a preliminary hearing, is Feb. 20, according to Sacramento Superior Court online records.
Sturgis was found dead in her Olympic Way home, the victim of a violent attack. Coroner's officials indicated she died of blunt force trauma.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the neighborhood near Sunrise Boulevard and Sunset Avenue by residents who reported a man wandering through the area and exhibiting bizarre behavior.
According to stories in The Bee, shortly before the attack, Trotter had gone to see his mother, who was working as a caregiver in a home near Sturgis' residence. His mother denied him access to the home and shortly afterward, detectives allege, Trotter slipped through an open window into Sturgis' home.
When deputies arrived, Trotter emerged naked and covered with blood.
