QUESTION: What was the outcome in the 1991 killing of Rickey Campbell at Warner's nightclub in Oak Park?
Submitted by: Robert, Sacramento
ANSWER: Richard Campbell, 22, of Sacramento died after suffering a gunshot wound in a fight at Warner's Rendezvous club on Stockton Boulevard in February 1992.
According to a brief account in The Bee, witnesses reported that Campbell, who had also been hit with a bottle, was beating a woman when a male dancer tried to help her. As many as five men then began beating both the woman and the dancer. That's when LeVictor Simpson, 24, of Oakland reportedly got a gun and tried to stop the fight.
Simpson allegedly fired when Campbell threatened him with a chair.
The Bee reported that Simpson was booked on an open homicide charge. There is no indication, however, that the case went to court. Simpson's name does not appear in Sacramento Superior Court online records.
