An Auburn man is in jail accused of threatening his neighbor, then fighting police officers.
Auburn police responded to the 100 block of Pine Street about 12:20 p.m. Monday regarding a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex. They were told that the suspect, John Hurd, 47, had threatened a woman who is his neighbor.
As officers were about to contact Hurd at his apartment, they heard the sound of a pump-action shotgun from his apartment.
Concerned for their safety and the neighbors, the officers repositioned themselves and evacuated the victim from her apartment, according to a Police Department news release.
Police tried to contact Hurd by phone, but he didn't answer. They then used the patrol unit's public address system to try to communicate with the suspect, and he eventually came out of his apartment. But officials said Hurd resisted and fought with officers.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and resisting, obstructing and delaying an officer.
He is being held in Placer County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
