The Civil Engineering Squadron Building was gutted by a fire that broke out about 2:30 p.m. Monday. Because it was the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the building was largely empty of personnel, limiting the chance of fire injury.
On person was in the building at the time of the fire's beginning. That person safely got out.
Beale Air Force Base firefighters and crews from Linda and Wheatland responded to the blaze to extinguish the fire, which was still sending up smoke this morning. One firefighter suffered minor injury fighting the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, according to a base press release.
