Boy killed when car is broadsided near Wheatland

A four-year-old died in a collision at an intersection Wednesday northwest of Wheatland.

The California Highway Patrol said that boy was in a Honda Civic headed southbound on Rancho Road about 4:30 p.m. A Nissan Sentra, traveling eastbound on Ostrom Road, failed to stop at a stop sign where the two roads intersect, according to a CHP press release.

The Nissan struck the passenger side of the Honda, killing the four-year-old boy. Alcohol does not appear to be a cause of the crash.

The investigation into the collision is on-going, according to the CHP.
