The closure of Luther Burbank High School has ended and a search discontinued for auto thieves in the South Sacramento neighborhood around the campus.
This morning, students were "sheltered in place," at the campus, a less-restrictive measure than a lockdown, while police searched the neighborhood around the high school.
The incident began when law enforcement got into a pursuit with a suspect driving a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was eventually abandoned near Florin Road and Munson Way.
Two men in their 20s ran from the car. The neighborhood was eventually surrounded by Sacramento police and searched by a police dog and a police helicopter crew.
The effort ended when the suspects could not be found. The school "shelter in place" measure was then lifted.
Police could not confirm that the men who fled from the stolen vehicle were tied to any other recent crimes, a police spokesman said. However, "we are looking into all possibilities," the spokesman said.
