Citrus Heights man arrested in slaying; second man sought

Jeffrey Douglas Powell.jpgPolice have arrested Citrus Heights man in connection with the death of Jack Swaim, 52, who was hit with an unknown object outside his home the morning of Jan. 5 and subsequently died in a local hospital.

Citrus Heights Police detectives serving an arrest warrant took Jeffrey Douglas Powell, 27, (pictured at left) into custody in the 7700 block of Wintergreen Drive in Citrus Heights just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, the department announced today. He was booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail for investigation of homicide.

Police reported they have an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Andrew Les Johnson (pictured at right) related to the homicide.

Police were dispatched shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 5 to the 6300 block of Stonehand Avenue in Citrus Heights on a call for medical aid for a man who had been hit outside his home with the unidentified object.

Police found Swaim unconscious. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information on Johnson's whereabouts or about the case is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
