Citrus Heights man sentenced in child pornography case

A 27-year-old Citrus Heights man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Derrick James Kennedy was sentenced today in Sacramento by U.S. District Judge Morrison C. England Jr. Kennedy also will be subject to 10 years of supervised release following his prison term, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

Kennedy pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of child pornography. According to court documents, law enforcement agents traced user-sharing files of child pornography on a peer-to-peer file-sharing program to Kennedy's Citrus Heights residence.

On Nov. 9, 2009, a search warrant was executed at his home. A forensic examination of evidence seized during the search found 565 videos and 2,000 images depicting child pornography, authorities said.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
