Inmate linked to July assault near American River College

Clakr, Ian 1omvz (1).jpgThe Sacramento Sheriff's Department today announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a woman near American River College last summer.

Ian Clark (pictured) was arrested Thursday at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, where he has been in custody since his arrest July 27 on unrelated charges of auto theft and felony evasion of a peace officer, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

Shortly before 7 p.m. July 16, a woman was walking along the Arcade Creek nature trail near American River College when she was grabbed from behind and choked by a man who held a knife to her. He reportedly indicated that he intended to rape and kill her.

The victim struggled with the man and was able to break away from him. He then fled on a bicycle.

Authorities said evidence recovered at the scene linked Clark to the attack. He is now accused of additional felonies, including robbery, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to commit rape.
