Man found fatally shot in south Sacramento park identified

The man found shot to death in a south Sacramento park early Monday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as 49-year-old Clark Jay Hammer.

A caller told dispatchers shortly before 2 a.m. Monday that he had been shot and was in a park near Florin Mall Drive, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. Deputies tracked the call location to the 6000 block of Orange Avenue and found Hammer with a gunshot wound to his upper body in Sheldon Park.

Hammer was declared dead at 2:08 a.m. from homicide, according to the coroner's report.
