A jury today convicted a man of first-degree murder for stabbing a woman to death last year in Discovery Park and then setting her body on fire.
The verdict was returned against Robert Albert Thompson, 37, for the the killing on Feb. 14 of Sharion Renay King, 43.
Sacramento Superior Court Judge Russell L. Hom scheduled Thompson's sentencing for March 1. Thompson is facing a term of 25-to-life, plus additional time for the use of the knife in the killing.
The prosecution portrayed Thompson as a domineering figure who engaged in multiple relationships with women he met online, including some who also worked for him as prostitutes. Text messages displayed during Thompson's trial suggested he was angry with King because she challenged his efforts to control her.
